JOIN THE HUA

The Harvard Undergraduate Association (HUA) is Harvard College’s student government. We are dedicated to amplifying student voices, creating meaningful initiatives, and crafting an amazing college experience for every student. The student government plays a central role in shaping campus life, and joining the HUA is a unique opportunity to get involved, build community, and make an impact on student life at Harvard. With seven dedicated teams, Harvard's student government works to enhance student life in nearly every aspect.

We encourage all first-years to get involved in student government and help to make change on campus! Fill out this interest form to sign up for HUA and join one of our amazing teams! We are excited to welcome you to Harvard, and even more excited for you to join us in the fall! Let us know if you have any questions!

About Our Teams

Academic Team

The Academic Team’s mission is for students to make the best academic institution in the world better. Especially under the current circumstances where our academic integrity and equity is at stake, our Harvard Student Government Academic team will represent Harvard students and build projects to solve issues around the school.

We have 8 upperclassmen directors who would be guiding through your projects and help you participate in advocacy work and project development. Some teams within the Academic team include:

  • Academic Mentorship

  • Technology development (building the “myharvard.ai” website)

  • Academic Equity

  • Academic accommodations

  • Social Media/promotion

As the Academic Team, we have the privileges and the responsibility of advocating for academic policy to the highest ranking administration members of Harvard including Dean Claybaugh. and being a part of the Committee of Undergraduate Education (CUE). We will have student representatives in the Committee where we have the opportunity to propose ideas to administration.

ANY student ANY concentration, ANY identity is welcome.

Welcome to the Academic Team!

Finance Team

The HUA Finance Team manages the budget that fuels student life. We review grant applications and allocate resources to help student organizations thrive. We also track how HUA funds are spent and release a semesterly financial report to ensure transparency and accountability. Because we oversee the budget, the Finance Team plays a key role in nearly every major decision the HUA makes.

We encourage interested pre-frosh to join the Finance Team!

During the summer fellowship, you’ll gain hands-on experience in budgeting, grant-making, and accounting. Additionally, the Finance Team designs and leads creative fundraising initiatives. Whether you choose to organize a campus-wide event or build a new system to streamline grant approvals, you’ll be making a tangible impact on the student body. You’ll also get a head start in taking on leadership within the HUA.

Residential Life Team

The Residential Life Team at Harvard oversees housing, dining, and security policies. As a member of the team, you will help on a variety of projects, ranging from extending fly-by hours, looking into transportation deals for students, and improving the laundry system to increasing security by the union dorms, exploring dining options for students with dietary restrictions, and providing solutions to the on-going rodent problems. Previous efforts by the Residential Life Team have included uber vouchers, laundry detergents in laundry rooms across campus, attempts at hot breakfast in the quad, and more. Should you join, you may participate in meetings with the Harvard University Dining Services staff, house committees, or more, getting to know the ins and outs of campus.

As a freshmen, residential life is one of the biggest parts of your first year. The dorms are where you spend time with roommates, study, party, and sleep. The dining hall is where you meet your friends, share stories over meals, and escape your p-sets. If you’d like to contribute to making your experience at Harvard better, don’t hesitate to join the Residential Life Team!

Social Life Team

The Social Life Team within the Harvard Undergraduate Association (HUA) is a dynamic and diverse group dedicated to fostering fellowship and enhancing the student experience across campus. Through inclusive programming and creative initiatives, we aim to build a stronger sense of community among Harvard students. Over the past year, our team organized a wide range of events—from a Game Night Brain Break for first-years and a campus-wide Halloween movie night to large-scale initiatives like the Fun Fund and Crimson Cohesion Fund, which provide financial support for student outings and organizations. We also hosted well-being and professional development events, such as the Reading Period Recharge, offering J.P. Licks hot chocolate and Insomnia cookies, and Picture Perfect: Free Headshots, giving students access to professional portraits. To close out the year, we launched several firsts, including the First-Year Super Bowl Watch Party, a campus ice skating trip, and the Student Event Closet, which equips student groups with resources for event planning. Looking ahead, our team is excited to improve upon these efforts and introduce new events that further our mission to create meaningful, accessible, and joyful experiences for all Harvard College students.

Inclusion Team

The Inclusion Team works to ensure that every student on campus feels seen, supported, and empowered. Our mission is to foster a culture where all voices are heard and everyone feels like they truly belong at Harvard. We collaborate with cultural and affinity groups, support identity-affirming events, and help fund initiatives that build community across differences. Whether you’re passionate about social justice, love bringing people together, or just want to help create a more welcoming Harvard, we’d love to have you on the team. Join us in making campus a more inclusive and connected place!

Well-Being Team

Every student at Harvard should feel that our campus is a home, properly equipping us with the tools to thrive. Thus, the Well-Being Team is responsible for helping students navigate resources on Harvard's campus related to their holistic health. Whether it’s working with different Harvard organizations to create these resources or creating clear and accessible feedback channels for students to express concerns with our already existing programming, we aim to create a campus where each student is more connected to themselves and each other. Through an approach centered around collaboration, communication, and connectivity, the Well-Being Team will elevate its work and make Harvard a proud model for how student well-being is prioritized and protected.

Extracurricular Team

The Extracurricular Team is a branch of the HUA centered around improving the experience of running and being a member of extracurricular organizations at Harvard. Our main function is to serve as a voice for the student body by participating in the process of approving new student organizations. Additionally, we will host fundraisers to increase the pool of money available for and work to improve the policies that govern student organizations. We can also host events and take on new projects as we think of them throughout the year, such as mixers for members of different organizations who may not otherwise interact! I can’t wait to see what all of you will accomplish and all of the meaningful changes you will create with the extracurricular team!
